Contemporary Floating Stairs

Sights of the Beach can be Seen as you Climb the Stairs

We were asked to design a contemporary floating stair for a shore home. the design intent was for it to be modern in design, but to use traditionally materials such as stone for treads and foraged aluminum railings.

Because of the proximity to the beach, we utilized 2″ x 12″ solid aluminum stringers, designed custom pans to secure the stone treads. We utilized marine grade castings for the railings, to withstand the salt air elements. One challenge was that the stair had to change direction at the halfway point. But with prudent designing and engineering that challenge was overcome. The whole stair was powder coated to CIW-2604-A specs and will provide access to phenomenal beach views for many years to come.
